Dua Lipa

My introduction to Dua Lipa, or as Wendy Williams called her Dula Peep, was her 2017 hit: "New Rules". Personally I thought, and still think, that song is awful. Mostly because I just don't like chorus. Sadly, that was enough for me to write her off for a while.

So how did she go from "I will never listen to her intentionally ever again" to my #1 artist this month? The answer is simple: Future Nostalgia. I have a deep love and appreciation for soul, funk, R&B, and disco, and this album really leans into the disco and funk. It's not like peak disco or funk but it's a damn fun album.

She's also one of those celebrities that the more I hear about, the more I like. From collaborating with Google Maps to compile a list of her favorite places in the world, to running her own bookclub podcast, to cornering Gal Gadot for being a Zionist (this is alleged but I don't care enough to look into if it's true. But if it is it's hilarious), Dua Lipa makes a great case for being one of the most interesting artists alive at the moment.

Obviously I recommend Future Nostalgia, but I would also highly recommend Live From the Royal Albert Hall if you want a sample of her most recent works.
