Albert Complains About: Trying Everything

For the longest time, I took (still take?) pride in being the "giving everything a chance" guy when it comes to music. That being said, I have also been one to say "if I don't like it, I will tell you". Most people don't know that when I say that I usually mean "I will tell you it's not really my thing and I won't pretend to like it". I feel like pretending to like it is actually worse than being direct.

On the off chance that this somehow comes across someone I know, I'll keep it kind of anon. I have an acquaintance who is really really into this one band. I have known about said band for AGES and just never got into them. It's just not my thing. To be honest their genre definitely seems like something I'd be into...but when that kind of heavy music was big, I was just discovering Black Flag, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, The Circle Jerks, etc. I was obviously pre-occupied and found those bands more interesting than bands like As I Lay Dying, Miss May I, The Devil Wears Prada, Fit for A King, etc.

So back to the acquaintance. Despite me telling them on several occasions they are not my thing or "I'm just not a fan", he still insisted on sending me their new stuff (all while low key ignoring all the music I sent him btw, which is like the biggest middle finger for me), he often asked if I was going to their shows to which I'd say "nah, I just don't listen to enough of their stuff to justify paying to see them". I feel like most people would just take note of the "it's not my thing", "I don't listen to enough of their stuff", and stop. But apparently this means that I just need to see them live to get it, so he offered to buy me a ticket and honestly this is where I messed up because I just threw my hands up and said "sure".

So anyway...if it was a GA ticket that would be fine I need to take the L and just go. But nope, he went the extra mile and bought us VIP tickets so now I get to meet this band who I have 0 interest in. I tried to listen to their music, I really did but I just...don't like it
